Covid-19 Update March 1, 2021
RE: OPEN OREGON CAMPS 2021
Camps across the State of Oregon are working together to ensure our ability to open overnight camps this summer. We need your help right now!
We are reaching out to campers and families to ask you to advocate for the safe and responsible opening of overnight camps for the summer of 2021.
As you know, in 2020, Oregon camps, as in many other states, were unable to open. The good news is that several states have reversed their position from 2020 and are reopening in 2021. We want to encourage Oregon to do the same.
Governor Kate Brown needs to hear from parents and campers supporting the opening of overnight camps.
Above are links to view sample actions letters for both parents and campers. They also include instructions on how to send your personalized letter to Governor Brown.
Thank you for your support in this effort.
CONCERNING THE SUMMER YOUTH CAMPING SEASON
At this time (March 1, 2021), overnight youth camps are still not allowed. We understand the State of Oregon is considering guidelines and a time line for re-opening overnight youth camps, but there is not a set date for a decision.
We are planning as if there will be summer camps, but ask that you take into consideration the changing guidelines and restrictions due to Covid-19. Individual camps may be postponed or cancelled.
There are several critical conditions that must be met in order to hold the Camps.
1. The State of Oregon needs to remove the current restriction on opening or operating an overnight camp session for children.
2. The Camp needs to implement a number of policies and procedures concerning Screenings for Covid-19, Contact Tracing, Physical Distancing, Stringent cleaning protocols, and changes to food service management.
3. Program leadership for these camp sessions needs to be in place to hold these modified sessions.
Like everyone else, our plans for summer 2020 were turned upside down and inside out due to Covid-19. Camp will continue to be one of the best experiences you can offer a child. The health and safety of our children during this time is of prime importance, so the Board and Staff of Wi-Ne-Ma Christian Camp will continue to monitor developments to the guidelines coming out from regulatory agencies for operating overnight camps. Our prayer is that God will make a way for some youth camps to open this summer, the summer of 2021.
And, if not, our prayer is that He will open an unexpected door of opportunity further down the road.
